Position Summary
The Financial Controller is a key leadership role within UEP's Finance team. This mid-to-senior level position oversees core accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance across our eCommerce business — with meaningful exposure to Amazon FBA financials, multi-currency transactions, and international operations. The Controller serves as a strategic partner to finance leadership and business units, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial information while driving process improvements. This role reports to the Director of Finance.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Accounting
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
- Prepare and analyze accurate financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow).
- Oversee general ledger, reconciliations, and account analyses.
- Manage fixed assets, accruals, and intercompany transactions across US and international entities.
eCommerce & Amazon FBA Finance
- Manage and reconcile Amazon FBA seller account financials, including disbursements, fees, reserves, and reimbursements.
- Reconcile Amazon settlement reports and marketplace transactions to the general ledger, ensuring completeness and accuracy of revenue, fees, reserves, reimbursements, and receivables.
- Oversee revenue recognition and cost of goods sold across multiple Amazon marketplaces (US, CA, EU, etc.).
- Partner with operations on inventory accounting — including inbound shipments, storage fees, and landed cost calculations.
- Monitor and reconcile marketplace fees, advertising spend (PPC), and promotional costs within the P&L.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Support the development and monitoring of annual budgets and rolling forecasts.
- Provide variance analysis and insightful commentary to leadership.
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls over financial reporting.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and applicable local statutory requirements (US and China).
- Coordinate with external auditors and manage audit processes.
Process Improvement & Systems
- Identify and implement opportunities to streamline financial processes and leverage technology and ERP systems.
- Support system implementations or upgrades as needed.
Strategic Support
- Provide financial analysis and decision support for business initiatives, cost optimization, and special projects.
- Partner with operational and category teams on financial matters related to product launches, pricing, and profitability.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- CPA, CMA, or equivalent professional certification strongly preferred.
Experience
- 6–10+ years of progressive accounting experience in a corporate or industry environment.
- Prior experience in a Controller or Senior Accounting Manager role.
- Experience with Amazon FBA seller financials or eCommerce/direct-to-consumer accounting strongly preferred.
- Proven track record managing a team and financial close processes.
- Experience with multi-entity or international operations (US + China a plus).
Skills & Competencies
- Strong technical accounting knowledge and analytical skills.
- Excellent attention to detail combined with big-picture thinking.
- Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, QuickBooks, or equivalent) and advanced Excel.
- Familiarity with Amazon Seller Central reporting and FBA fee structures a meaningful plus.
- Experience with Amazon accounting tools (A2X, Sellerboard, or similar) is a plus.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-finance stakeholders.
- High integrity and sound business judgment.
